How permanent lighting works

One system, every occasion

Most people call about Christmas. The system you install for December works the other eleven months too, which is the point at which it stops being a holiday expense and starts being outdoor lighting:

Switching between them takes a few seconds and no change of hardware, and the color options do not run out partway through the year.

Color and control

Control of the whole system sits in an app on your phone. Pick a color, dim it, run one of the built in patterns, or set a schedule so the lights come on at dusk and go off at bedtime without you thinking about it again.

Every light on the run can hold its own color, so one system covers red and green in December, orange and purple in October, and your team on a Friday night. If you would rather it never look like a holiday display, a plain warm white along the eave reads as architectural lighting and nothing else. Left on that setting through the evening, the same LED run lights the walkway and the front door, which is worth something for visibility and security at six in the afternoon in December.

Built for Central Texas weather

Anything mounted on the outside of a house here has to survive 100 degree summers, hard UV, the occasional January freeze, and the spring storms that move through Hays and Comal counties. These systems are sealed and rated to stay outdoors year round, which is the difference between them and the seasonal strands stocked in big box stores every October.

The mounting matters as much as the product. A channel fastened into sound fascia, with the runs routed clear of gutter overflow and downspout splash, is what keeps a system straight and working several seasons in. That part is craftsmanship rather than a spec sheet, and it is the part we have been doing on Central Texas homes for two decades.

Designed around your roofline

Houses here are not built to one plan. A single story ranch in Lockhart, a hill country home with three rooflines stepping down a slope, and a two story build in a Kyle subdivision each need a different layout, so we start with your elevations instead of a catalog. We walk the house and work out which sections earn the light:

• Front and side elevations
• Garages, porches, and covered patios
• Rear entertaining areas
• Multiple story sections

Depending on the house, the finished layout may use several separate runs, more than one controller, and power injection points placed so brightness and color hold up at the far end of a long run. Corners, downspouts, and existing power locations get worked out on paper before the first clip goes up.

Where the lights meet your gutters

These lights mount to fascia, soffit, and drip edge, which is the same line your seamless rain gutters hang on. That overlap is the reason a gutter company is a sensible choice for the work.

Lights fastened to soft or rotted fascia will not stay straight, so we check the board before we quote the run and can wrap damaged fascia first. We look at how water is currently leaving the roof while we are up there, because a run of lights sitting in the path of an overflowing gutter is a problem worth finding now rather than in May. If the house also needs new gutters, gutter repairs, or leaf protection against the oak and pecan litter that fills gutters here every fall, that is one visit instead of two.
